Facing the closet

It is 8pm. My son is in the other room with the other parent. He is, as far as I can tell from here, winning. I am in this room, in front of a screen, Claude-coding. I am, in the honest sense of the word, hiding.

The build I am hiding inside is not due. Nobody is waiting. I told myself at 7pm I would stop at 7:30 and I did not. It is now 8:07. The other parent has not come to get me, which is worse than if she had, because it means she has stopped expecting me.

I have a name for these hours now. Closet hours. The hours you spend building things nobody is waiting for, while someone who loves you is in the next room.
